PB1A-Bumper Stickers
As I'm staring at the car in front of me I can't take my eyes off the bumper sticker on their car. I don't know what it is about it but, it keeps my attention. Bumper stickers is a large textual genre that we all see on a daily bases. Bumper stickers if you don't know are a type of "art" that people find passion in and put them all over their cars. People love putting bumper stickers on their cars to express themselves. For example, people put political candidates' bumper stickers on their cars. Like Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton. People love expressing their political views through bumper stickers. People also love expressing their love for other things through bumper stickers as well. Whether it's their religion, nationalism or an certain organization (ex. Salvation Army). There are people who also use bumper stickers to show off to people. For example, at certain schools, when a student receives honor roll status, their family receives a bumper sticker reading out," My student is an honor roll student at ___ school." When people usually see these bumper stickers, they usually have a reaction of," WOW congrats! No one cares!" How do bumper stickers get our attention? Bumper stickers usually stick out on cars with their type of colors and font type. That's the purpose of a bumper sticker. They're supposed to stick out and bring attention towards them. You might be wonder, what defines a bumper sticker? Google defines a bumper sticker as,"A label carrying a slogan or advertisement fixed to a vehicle's bumper." Bumper stickers don't have to be "fixed" onto just the bumper. People put them all over the place. Bumper stickers are also people's passions. As in passions, they express what they live for. For example, healthy, religious and political people put bumper stickers on their cars to let people know their passions. With healthy people, they love to express what type of lives they live whether they're vegetarian/vegan or not. Religious people love to put verses of their religion's text. Political people also love to express their point of view. For example, the equal sign bumper sticker is expressed as equality through each race, ethnicity, gender, and religion. The coexistence sticker has the same meaning as well. Sports people as well. They love to show their loyalty and passion for their teams. Whether you're an Eagles fan or a Steelers fan, they want you to know what to team they live and breathe for. Another large group of bumper sticker people are people who know someone or were in the armed forces. They show what branch of the military they were in. For example, if they were in the Marines, they could have a bumper sticker that reads," Semper Fi" on it. If it's a parent of a person in the military, they could have a sticker that reads," Proud parents of a Marine." Also, there are the people that love to show what school they go to as well. For example, some people who go to Penn State Abington have a bumper sticker that reads," Proud to be in Abington." Bumper stickers are used in many different ways. There really isn't a strict code for what is a bumper sticker and what isn't.
I totally agree with all the things you said about Bumper stickers. Like when I see them while driving sometimes I do get distracted and I usually try to read the words written on the stickers and sometimes by looking at the stickers I can tell what that person likes or what political party they support. Also there are many risks I think that comes with bumper sticker is that if you have someone that is following you with an wrong intention and you have stickers of dogs or police sticker on the bumper of your car that might let the person know that you might have a dog and you might be a police officer etc.
ReplyDeleteI’m the person you described in your writing as saying “who cares!” but I can totally see why people get bumper stickers. I agree with you that some people get bumper stickers to express their interests. I relate it to people wearing sports shirts or hats. I also like how you specifically point out bumper stickers that have text. There are plenty of bumper stickers that are just graphics, but I never really thought about how many different kinds of bumper stickers there really are.
