PB1B- Inspecting Genre Generators

Genre generators are everywhere. Either online or in real life. Anything you can think of is in some way a genre. Having access to different resources can help you find different genre generators. Genre generator can consist of memes to story generators.
The first genre generator is a comic strip website. Comics now in days don't really target the current teenage age group but, they target our parents. We usually don't find comic humor funny but corny. Our parents on the other hand find comic humor entertaining and funny. As one comic strip consist of a guy named Skip who has bad dreams and urinates himself in bed. This comic does show parent humor or humor that targets younger kids as well. Comic strips can also be political. For example, on the website is a short comic strip about President Bush. The one character comes in saying that Bush won the Presidency. The other character comes in not knowing what to say but they both end up making it sound like they don't like that he won.
The next genre generator comes from a website that produces memes. Memes target our generation. Memes are based online. What are memes? Memes are humorous pictures that have a comical caption on it. Memes have a large variation including political, video games, sports, etc. When going onto the website, the site opens with vulgar memes including one about a guy walking in on his mom having sex. Memes like those target our generation because we are still kind of immature. A big topic in memes now in days is politics. For example, on the meme generator website, one meme said, "When a Liberal just quotes CNN as a fact...you have to decide if he gets the backhand or open hand slap." Memes to us are what comic strips to our parents are.
Another genre generator is Scigen. Scigen is a paper-based generator that helps with topics inside of computer science. This website helps generate research papers. It helps with creating a research paper in minutes for the user. It helps create intros, body paragraphs, and conclusions. It also helps with citations and grammar. This website also helps generate topics for the user also to work off of. To use as an example, one paper generated on the website was," Synthesizing the Internet Using Lossless Theory".
There are a large variety of websites that can generator many different types of genres. Most of these websites work off of what the user is looking for or what the user wants. I found a website that is based off of generating plots. This website helps create a title, opening, conflict, resolution, and helps create characters as well. This website also helps suggest how the story can go and how each character acts in each suggestion. The website can also help suggest certain names for your character and also help give descriptions of who your character is and what they do.This website helps all around with creating a story for you. All the website asks for is for you as the user to help put the essential parts of the story together, so the website can produce the story for you in a matter of time.
All in all, there are a wide variety of genre generated website on the internet. Ranging from story generators to meme generators. Each website has its own unique way of running. There isn't a certain script/ rule set that each website must operate on. Each website operates however they want to operate. If you can think it, there's probably a generator website for it.

  1. I find it interesting how you compare comic strips to memes. I do agree with you that our parents probably do read the comic strips more than we tend to do, and that we look at memes more than our parents do. However, when I was looking at the comic strip generator some of the comics that I got were equally vulgar in my opinion. Sometimes it was the subject matter and sometimes it was the language, but that could also depend on what ones we saw specifically.

  2. I found it interesting about the memes because you are right, that memes are in our generation. I also found it interesting that you chose comic strips and they were very interesting and I can see where your point is from comic strips. I think your totally right about how each website has its own unique way of running. I thought it was really smart that your compared similarities of memes and comic strips.

  3. Ryan I liked how you were able to state solid examples on your reasonings on helping the readers understand what a genre is. If I was not able to understand what a genre is, this paper will be a good way to understand it.

  4. Ryan, as far as the genre generators for the comic strips and the memes, I also agree that a convention of both of them are political. I don't think any of us realized before this class how much genre is out there and how many websites can be used to generate these genres.
